I fully embraced the latest technologies such as Padlet, Nearpod, edPuzzle, Kahoot, Google Classroom, Webquests, Google Slide Presentations, iCivics and other types of interactive platforms which gave students access to a breadth of valuable content and helped provoke deeper thought and increased engagement.

Here are a few examples of education platforms that I utilized throughout my student teaching at Castro Valley High School.

This is an example of a Padlet that we utilized in U.S. to increase dialogue and engagement surrounding the Cold War Unit: “The Cold War Abroad” focuses on some of the covert operations the US participated in around the world, aka spies and the CIA! Students watched several videos within small groups/breakout rooms in order to respond to the questions by posting comments on the Padlet. Padlet is similar to popular social media platforms students use today such as Instagram. During remote learning some students often felt more comfortable sharing their responses in this manner. The Padlet responses happen in real time, so students may view, respond to, and like their classmate's posts.

Below are screenshots of a Nearpod Lesson that I utilized in my Government class. Nearpod helps make a lesson interactive whether students are working remotely or in a live classroom. The students can access Nearpod through a code. For this assignment I opted for Student-Paced mode for students to complete this assignment on an asynchronous day, where the student controls the flow of the lesson. As a teacher I am able to review an overall summary of their progress.

Casey Anthony Nearpod Lesson Objective: At the conclusion of this activity students will be able to discuss the components and primary goals of the criminal justice system. Students will identify how constitutionally protected rights of individuals apply to the criminal justice system and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the criminal justice system by specifically analyzing the Casey Anthony court case. To complete the Nearpod assignment, students first reviewed vocabulary in order to create or draw their own logographic assignment. Logographic cues are visual aids to help students learn vocabulary concepts. Next students watched the Casey Anthony video while answering the embedded discussion questions   Following the screenshots are links to student work samples.
